Kempsey Shire Council is currently seeking feedback from the community on Council’s Customer Service delivery and public art across the Shire.

To participate in the surveys simply go to Council’s engagement website http://yoursay.macleay.nsw.gov.au  and click on ‘Council needs your feedback’.

Here you will be able to provide your thoughts which will go on to inform Council’s future approaches to customer service and public art.

The Knock-On Effect comes to Kempsey

On country roads, one mistake impacts an entire community.

This program focuses on the ripple effect of road trauma on local communities and encourages country drivers to make smarter and safer choices behind the wheel. Organised through a partnership between the Centre for Road Safety and the NSW Rugby League, the Knock-On Effect will bring well known rugby league ambassadors to our region to conduct a coaching clinic.

Mayoral Community Fund

Are you a group, organisation or individual providing services to residents of the Kempsey Shire? You may be eligible to apply for a Mayoral Community Fund grant.

This initiative of Kempsey Shire Council is aimed at supporting community projects that produce a positive outcome for the Macleay Valley. Last year’s funding round was shared among community groups such as the South West Rocks Swimming Club, the Kempsey Railway Centenary, Kempsey Riverside Markets and the Crescent Head Malibu Club.

What’s on at Kempsey Library

Author, artist and Australian film director Michael Rubbo is coming to Kempsey Library to discuss his book Travels with My Art. The book details his love of painting outside, working with oil paints like painter Van Gogh, and his travels. Copies of Michael’s book will be available for purchase on the day.

Cover of Rodney Loses It!

Storytime
Friday 31 August, 10:30am

The monthly Storytime is a free event designed for children aged 3 to 6 years and includes book readings, craft and music. This month Betty the Bookworm will be visiting Kempsey Library as part of her Paint the Town REaD tour to read us Rodney Loses It! by Michael Bauer and Christina Krebs.

Bookings are not required to attend Storytime sessions.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

Gregory Street/Arthur Street resurfacing
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Continue Belmore/Kinchela floodgate rust prevention works; gate maintenance on Summer Island Road
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance and replacement: Form and pour new kerb and gutter at Carri Street, South Kempsey
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on South West Rocks Road, Saleyards Road and Belmore River Right Bank Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Asphalt surfacing on Tozer Street (Elbow Street to Kemp Street); prepare Plummers Lane(Macleay Valley Way to Menarcobrinni Road) for seal; excavate north and south shoulders and widen pavement on Plummers Lane (from Menarcobrinni Road eastward)
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Toose Road, Saleyards Road, Old Station Road and Spooners Avenue
  • Roadside slashing: South Kempsey area
  • Other works:
    • Lay asphalt to intersection and shoulder on Lachlan Street, South Kempsey (Yarravel Street to Middleton Street - west side)
    • Pour kerb and gutter and place pavement at Lachlan Street, South Kempsey as part of Middleton Street roundabout construction
    • Modify linemarking on Macleay Valley Way, Bellimbopinni as part of concrete pavement repairs
